I made the journey to Kalpitya and Mannar Island in Sri Lanka for Kitesurfing. The consistent winds and flat water make this location ever so dreamy for kitesurfing. Along with this, Sri Lanka offered huge cultural diversity, lush green forests and dramatic windswept coasts.
The north-west region of Kalpitya offers world-class kitesurfing. The windy season runs from May until September and a less formidable season runs from mid-December to the end of March. Flatwater spots include the Kalpitya Lagoon, Vella Island and Mannar Island (which is a further 4-hour drive north).
Sri Lanka is home to many primo surf spots, I simply ran out of time to visit them -I will be back! In the Southern region of Mirissa barrels are breaking left, right and centre.
